Pigtails

I once made fun of Leslea when she brought little Tiffany to church with a microscopic pony tail on the top of her head held by a tiny rubber band. Now....I'm trying to make pigtails on Ivy even though there is not much to hold. I was laughing about it today. Now I understand. : )

If you want to get rid of the Zodiac sign info all you have to do is remove your birthdate from your profile. That's the only way to get it to disappear.

Yeah I didn't want the zodiac stuff either so left DOB out. Sorry to be so blunt, but I am quite concerned about some of the beliefs of The Door church that you linked to - Holy Spirit baptism...does that mean I haven't received the holy spirit cos I can't speak in tongues?- I know I have received the holy spirit though. Jesus didn't speak in tongues either. The Bible says tongues has it's time and place, but no where does it say it is a necessary part of Christian life.

Here's my churches description of Christianity to see where I'm coming from: http://www.trinityexeter.com/what_is_christianity.htm
I'm not trying to be rude or unkind, just worried as fellow Christian.

I showed your message to my husband and we both couldn't help but wonder where you got that notion of our church. Our church (nor our fellowship) has never taught that you had to speak in tongues in order to be saved. That is a gift from God. In fact, our church teaches just like the bible that salvation is by grace through faith. Then speaking in tongues is a gift that we ask for. Never has it been taught of my 26 years of attending that it is necessary for salvation. I didn't bother looking up your church information. Simply knowing your bible thoroughly will give you the answers. No Jesus didn't speak of tongues. There is a reason for that. Once he left, it was necessary for the Holy Spirit to come down and that is when they received the gift of the Holy Spirit to "everyone in the room that was a believer". If you study that thoroughly and in context, you'll see what I mean. Jesus himself said for the disciples to wait in Jeruselum for the gift of the promise that they will be endued with power from on high. That is why a lot of "Christians" don't believe that homosexuality is wrong because Jesus Himself didn't speak it. The part where people forget is when Jesus commanded that people also listen to His disciples once He was gone. Therefore, it was written in the bible that homosexuality is an abomination to God just as Sodom and Gomorrah was. Being that we are to heed His Word, we are to also listen to the words of His disciples. Please read the bible in context (for yourself) rather just believing whatever a church preaches. You don't have to receive His gifts. But the bible also says to desire spiritual gifts. You never have to accept a gift from anyone. I'll never regret accepting His gift and being baptized with the Holy Spirit. I know you weren't being rude. : ) Thanks for writing.

Sincerely,

Virginia Revoir

Thanks for replying so kindly. What I read was on http://tempe.thedoorchurch.com/index.php?section=18 which says
"3. Holy Spirit Baptism
- Holy Spirit Baptism is evidenced by speaking in tongues.
- Holy Spirit Baptism is an experience different and distinct from Salvation or Water Baptism."
I've never come across the term "Holy Spirit baptism" and I read it to mean that the evidence of receiving the holy spirit was to speak in tongues. I understand that talking in tongues is a great gift, which is for personal communication between yourself and God or to be interpreted by someone else.

I'd like your view point on something: I've never received adult immersion baptism, I was "baptised" as a baby, and have made the promises myself when old enough, but the church I went to then did not do adult baptism. I've spoken to many people about this from many backgrounds... what's your thoughts?

The Bible says, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins..." (Acts 2:38). There is no question about whether you should be baptized. Just how, when ,and by whom. The scripture says that those who were baptized were fully immersed in water. If John were merely sprinkling believers, he would have needed only a cupful of water. Baptism by immersion also pictures our death to sin, burial, and resurrection to new life in Christ. Romans 6:4 and Col 2:12. The believers were always baptized after they received Christ in their hearts. Not as babies. Baptism is a stop of obedience, and God blesses our obedience. The bible says that other believers are to baptize you (or your pastor). I was babtized when I was a teen.
Thank you for writing me back! I apologize that I couldn't email you personally but I don't have your address. Feel free to write anytime. : )

Oops. Please excuse my typo in the word "stop". I meant to type "step" of obedience. My apologies. VR
