Ivy's 7th Birthday Party Fun and Build-a-Bear

The kids were throwing around a bouncy ball in the house.  I said to them, "If you guys keep hitting my expensive guitar I'm gonna have a cow."  So Kyle says, "Mommy, you're gonna have a cow?"  Then Ivy hears him and starts shouting "Guess what, everyone?  Mommy is gonna have a cow!  That means we can have our own milk to drink.  Yay!"  I had to reel that one in quick.  Ha ha.  No, mommy ain't havin' no cow.

We celebrated Ivy's 7th birthday at Makutu's Island and had so much fun.  I am kicking myself for forgetting to go on my favorite slide.  It's really steep and I always fly really far when I come out.  It's kind of embarrassing actually but so worth the fun.

We took Ivy and her friend Cassidy to Build-a-Bear.  We love that place and visit there quite often.  In fact, back at Christmas time they had a special where they double the gift card value that you buy. We paid $20 but got $40 worth and saved it for Ivy's birthday which was going to be seven months later.  So when I went the other day I used those, plus a $10 off coupon.  The register rang everything out to $50.26.  After I handed her gift cards and coupons I only had to pay .26 out of my own pocket.  Patience paid off.  :)  I hope they do that promotion again with the gift cards because it's perfect to hold onto for birthdays.

The boys have finally outgrown Build-a-bear and so I mostly just have the girls that care.  I turned to Charles the other day and said, "I think having girls is gonna cost you."  He smile and said "It's okay.  They are worth it."

By the way, funny story.  I just got a FedEx package dropped of which was the router I ordered from Amazon.  However, the receipt that came with it says "Thank you for ordering 40 ovulation tests."  Hmmm... I don't need help getting pregnant but thank you anyway.

What Have You Done All Day, Woman?

This picture is soooo funny... I just had to share this with you!  Ha ha.

A man came home from work and found his 3 children outside, still in their pajamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers strewn around garden, The door of his wife's car was open, as was the front door to the house and no sign of the dog, walking in the door, he found ...an even bigger mess. A lamp had been knocked over, the throw rug was against one wall, In the front room the TV was on loudly with the cartoon channel, the family room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing. In the kitchen, dishes filled the sink, breakfast food was spilled on the counter, the fridge door was open wide, dog food was spilled on the floor, a broken glass lay under the table, and a small pile of sand was spread by the back door. He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over toys and more piles of clothes, looking for his wife. He was worried she might be ill, or that something serious had happened. He was met with a small trickle of water as it made its way out the bathroom door. As he peered inside he found wet towels, scummy soap and more toys strewn over the floor. Miles of toilet paper lay in a heap and toothpaste had been smeared over the mirror and walls. As he rushed to the bedroom, he found his wife still curled up in the bed in her pyjamas, reading a novel... She looked up at him, smiled and asked how his day went. He looked at her bewildered and asked, 'What happened here today?' She again smiled and answered, 'You know every day when you come home from work and you ask me what in the world do I do all day?...
''Yes," was his incredulous reply..
She answered, 'Well, today I didn't do it.'

Sick Kids, Broken Carts, and Facebook Backlash

Caleb and Kyle playing soldiers
There is definitely some sicknesses going around and my son caught the bug a couple of nights ago.  Agh... I'm fighting with my morning sickness just to talk about it right now.  Kyle was up all night long Sunday night into the morning getting sick and once I finally went to bed making sure he was okay, he did a lot of getting sick in the room.  I didn't know till the next morning when my husband's friend came over.  They were talking in the living room and I walked down the hallway to get something.  I smelled something funny and tried to make a run for it but threw up my coffee right on the floor. Lovely.  So now the bedroom was giving off fumes and wifey is throwing up on the floor.  Whew.... it was just one of those mornings!  It's seems Kyle's sickness was only 24 hours but he was pretty weak and tired for the rest of the day.  I had him homeschool a little bit but he was just not into it.  I felt really bad for him and had him just go rest for the the day.  He's the kid the never complains about much of anything when it comes to work so I knew he really did feel cruddy.

Last  night I went to Walmart with a friend and bought some homeschool supplies. We were being goofy the whole time and were just laughing like crazy.  It takes us forever to do anything when we are together.  She just had surgery so she was riding in an electric cart that kept stalling.  We'd just be walking along and all of a sudden my friend would be gone.  I'd look back and she would be stuck for a few seconds before the cart would work again.  There were no other carts so we were stuck with it. When we're together we tend to buy more because we talk each other into it.  I'm sure our husbands fear that when we say we are going shopping together.  LOL.  I bought a bulletin board to tack up our bible study we're doing each week and then some dry erase markers for the white board.  I got a jumbo pack of construction paper and some other supplies.  It really is encouraging to have a close friend that homeschools and we can give each other ideas.  We are both in the same boat with being fairly new to schooling our kids at home and really trying to find our way.  That is why we use something to help us along.  As time goes on I've slowly begun pulling away and doing our own stuff. So far I only do that with History and Science.  I use a program for Math, Language Arts, and Bible and I'm really happy with it.

My husband lectured me this morning about working myself too hard and I need to at least stop working by 9pm.  I told him I enjoy being busy and I don't realize I'm doing that.  He said 9pm I'm done so that's that.  My man has spoken.  :)  Hey, at least he doesn't think I sit on my butt all day and eat bon bons.

Last night I dreamt that God took me to view the world from a distance.  Have you ever been in a plane and when you look out the window the houses seem so tiny?  It always gets me in a deep thought about how we get so caught up in day to day life and forget some important things. When going up in a plane the worries of this world seem to get tiny along with all the buildings.  Well, in my dream God took me out of the world to look at it from a distance.  He said the world is so caught up in the rush of things they don't realize what is coming. We needed to remember what mattered and to keep our hearts right with Him. It was a pretty neat dream but I woke up right after it wondering why I dreamt it and decided to just accept it.  It's true.  We take care of our day to day but one day we will stand before God and need to be ready for that.  Relationships are more important than things.  Working, working, working just so we can have more "stuff" is different than working to make a living and support our family.  The other day on Facebook I made the "mistake" (not really) of saying I appreciated my mom being a homemaker and taking care of us.  If I ever post anything like that I definitely get a verbal whipping from some.  Working moms always feel that I'm trying to send a message to them and each thinks I was secretly throwing a dagger.  I'm not.  It was just a thought that popped in my head and I wanted to send a thanks to my mom.  :)

If you get a chance head on over to my other friend's blog.  Her post today is called "Homeschool Chemistry: A Bunch of Advice From Kerrie"  A good read!

How Do You Pull Your Kids Teeth?

Ivy's had a loose tooth for awhile and she's been really crying about it.  She would go to eat something and it would start bleeding.  She didn't want me to pull it and would scream if I tried.  Finally, last night I said enough was enough and we were gonna pull it.  I tried pulling it out but it seemed a little stuck.  Then I remembered what my dad did with a string and made a knot around the tooth.  I gave it a tug and it came right out!  She started screaming because of the blood and ran to the bathroom.

Once she saw she wasn't going to bleed to death and could actually eat food she started laughing with relief.  She literally talked about her lost tooth for two hours straight.  She had never lost a tooth before so she keeps looking in the mirror she's so excited.  My dad used all kinds of creative ways to pull teeth.  Usually I'd be screaming hysterically and then laugh crazily in relief when it was over.  Haha.

One day my kids asked me what the tooth fairy does with all the teeth.  One of them piped up and said that it was because the tooth fairy had no teeth and needed some.  Heh heh. Yep, tooth fairies are flying around with no teeth and looking for some.

When Life Happens, Sometimes You Have to Laugh

See the tread gone?
We've had some crazy car issues these past couple of week.  Only being able to drive the large van but not the little car.  So Charles has been having to take the van back and forth to work every day so my kids haven't been able to go to school on Fridays.  The day we got the car fixed, I went with Charles to drop him off at his car so I could take the kids home in the van.  My husband insisted I take the cell phone with me in case I break down for since the transmission is going out.  I was like, "Yeah, yeah okay."  Well, I was driving home and we all her "BAM, BAM, BAM!"  The kids screamed and I pulled off the freeway.  While pulling off the freeway I was baffled that although it sounded like a I got a flat tire, it didn't feel like it.  I got out and saw that the tread had come off the tire and the loud sound was the tread hitting the metal of the van and bending it.

The tread bent the metal up
What it should look like
Since my tire wasn't popped I just drove really slow home and parked it.  As I was getting ready to mop the floor a bit later I started sweeping and thinking about how ironic it was.  How is it the moment we get my husband's work car going that we can't drive the van?  As disappointing as it was, at least the car was fixed on the same day and he can still get to work.  I figured I'd take it as a blessing.  Then, as I was sweeping the floor, this happens....

My broom falls apart!
Okay, now that is funny!  Haha!  We now need a transmission, new tire on our van, and now a broom.  Oh well.  Life happens, right?  For now we will have to take turns going to church since we can't fit everyone in the car.  Well, you do the best you can.  :D

How I knocked My Husband's Tooth Out

The picture is so true except the other way around.  I'm always falling off the edge of the bed.  Haha.  :D

Almost a week ago I did something really bad to my poor husband. It was in the middle of the night, he was laying on the covers where I couldn't get any.  I grabbed the blanket, gripped hard, and pulled the covers with all my might to try and get some.  My left hand slipped and whacked him right in the mouth.  I was hoping I didn't hit him that hard but he jumped up and grabbed his mouth.  Charles ran to the bathroom to get some tissue.  I figured that I gave him a bloody nose or something.  I kept saying, "Oh, I'm so sorry, so sorry!"  Guess what I did.  I not only split his lip with my wedding ring, I split his front tooth.  HIS FRONT TOOTH.  He had blood all over his mouth and was trying to hold part of his tooth in place.  Oh man, I felt sooooo bad.

Caleb's Billy Bob pacifier
The next couple of days he tried to be really careful eating but finally the the piece of tooth fell off so only half of the tooth is there. I feel so bad and he says he looks like he has Billy Bob teeth now.  Sigh.  I called around to several dentists and it'll be over $1,000 to fix it.  Really, really bad timing since the holidays are coming. We have to get it fixed though because Charles doesn't want to be visiting long lost family with Billy Bob teeth.  Soooo, we are thinking about different ways to save money in finding a dentist.  I told him that since we are paying with cash, bargain with them.  You can always negotiate when you are paying it all out of your own pocket.

Charles keeps joking and telling me maybe I was harboring bad feelings towards him and just needed to get it out, even if it was in my sleep.  Noooo, so not true!  Well, at first I joked with him and said, "That's what you get for getting me pregnant!"  Heh heh

(Picture shows Charles with 5 of the kids....before I knocked his tooth out)

Bible Study Humor from Kids

I have so much fun with the kids when we are learning about the bible. Sometimes we get really in depth answers or just really funny ones unintentionally.  Today I was trying to look into why Ryan's bible study through SOS had a lower grade. When I looked into his answers, this is what I saw...

Ryan was sitting next to me and we both started giggling at how he put "and" as one of the answers.  We looked up Galatians 5:22-23 together and found that the 9 fruits of the spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
This one (above) had Ryan and I in tears and laughter!  I explained to Ryan that "the" will probably never be an answer on here.  We couldn't stop cracking up for a long time.  LOL.  The answer is "12."

His answer was "living for a long time" would would probably be true for some people!  The answer was enduring or patience.  Ryan was never offended because we were just in a silly mood and was laughing together.  It's just so cute working with kids sometimes when studying stuff like this.  Tee hee....

*******

The other night we were studying the book Growing with Jesus before bedtime.  I ask my 11 year old if he could look up the scripture Ecclesiastes 12:14.  Chaz gladly flipped through till he found it and we all listened.  This is what we heard....

"God knows everything people do, even the things done in secret.  He knows all the good and all the bad.  He will judge everything people do.  With good reason, the young women love you, my lover."

What?  I asked him to read it again because the ending didn't sound right.  He read it again and the kids started to giggle.  I had to look it up myself because I don't remember the scripture ending that way.  The kids were all laughing and Chaz was turning bright read having to read "the young women love you, my lover" a second time.  I laughed so hard when I realized that since 12:14 is the last scripture in Ecclesiastes, Chaz hadn't realized he started reading into the Song of Solomon (verse 1:4) on the next page.  Somehow he meshed the two books together.  It took us all like 15 minutes to stop laughing.  I had tears running down my face and the kids kept laughing and laughing. Chaz thought it was pretty funny too!

Kids are so stinking cute.

Comical Reaction to Mom's Game Answer

Charles, Chaz, Ryan
Last night my family played our newest favorite board game together and it was so fun!  I had been looking for a game like this for so long and it can be played with kids.  Do Tell makes it to where we discuss issues in a light way or act out funny things.

We were even able to add in my younger ones and would just help them along.  Sometimes I just get so frustrated with video games and how much it takes us away from each other.  Well, not me.  I don't have video game issues of course.  I'm too busy, ha!  My love is blogging and couponing.  But blogging only takes about a half hour a day so no one can really complain about that.  Oh, and the couponing hugely benefits our family.  My husband says I have awesome hobbies so he doesn't mine the time it takes. :D  lol.

Anyway, I made a video of when it was my turn and I had to read a card.  This is how comical my family is!  I had such a hard time talking because I couldn't stop laughing.

Ivy
Ivy acting out what she wants the most.  An ice cream!  I'm pretty sure that was one of Ivy's first words.  She has this absolute love and devotion to ice cream and talks about it a lot.

My Funny First Experience in a Tanning Bed

I get scared by sounds of things really easy and tend to think everything is gonna blow up.  Like when I got my first coffee maker, you know those really awesome one cup Krueger ones?  Well, when I first turned it on it started to make a loud boiling sound.  I shut it off 4 times before I trusted it not to blow up.  AND, I ducked on the floor.  I'm glad no one was around because it was embarrassing.

Darque tanning bed

I finally joined a nearby tanning salon (I know, I know it's not good for your skin) and I picked the best one I could.  More like a luxury one to make sure it's safer.  They really do make different tanning beds.  Some that are safer than others.  I always say tan fat is better than white fat so I feel much better in my swimsuit now.  Heh heh.

Anyway, my first experience was interesting and I'm glad I'm in a booth all by myself.  First they give you a 5 minute timer to get ready. I thought there'd be no way I would make it.  After derobing as fast as humanly possible, it turns out I had enough time.  Time enough to lay there and think and at least have panicky thoughts.  It feels like you are going into a coffin first off.  As I pull the top down over me I felt like I was saying goodbye to the world or something.  It was weird.  While waiting for the lights to come on I checked all the Star Wars looking controls and hoped I even knew what I was doing.  Then I had this fear that someone would open the door and see me.  With my funny little goggles on I would not see it coming.  Then I hear the lights come on and I feel like I'm in some sci-fi movie.  That I was about to be shipped into outer space.  As it starts to get warmer I started to worry that I'd fry to death since it was getting hot.  I contemplated rolling out onto the floor for my own safety just in case the machine decided to explode and kill me.  Or fry me to death because of some weird shortage.  It was a long 8 minutes as I thought of every scenerio. Then I wondered if I was laying right.  Should I bring my arms in?  Out?  In?  Out?  I kept moving them back and forth trying to decide.  I looked up and saw a spritzer so I thought it'd be nice to try.  I turned it on and since it made a loud noise I panicked and tried to shut it off in case I got electrocuted. But it only goes off on it's own after a few seconds.  I must've hit the button 20 times.  By the time the tanning bed shut off on it's own I breathed a sigh of relief. I was still alive.

Kids Say Hilarious Things!

Last night I went to go pick up my son's friend at around 11pm.  I asked him what time his mom normally gets up in the morning.  He said 5am because she has to get up and babysit at 7am.  I asked, "Yes, but why get up so early?"  He replied, "Because she has to get up and open the curtains."  Ohhhh, well that explains it.  It's hard for me to comprehend why anyone would purposefully get up before daylight but that's because I've always been a night owl.  By the time I went to bed it was around midnight.  Guess what time I woke up?  5am and for NO REASON.  I was just wide awake. That's what I get for sticking my nose in someone else's business.

No matter how tempting it is to wanna write first thing in the morning, I know it's good to start the day in God's word.  I was sitting and reading when Ashley walked up to me and told me some disparaging words.  She sadly said:

"Mom, my lips is lost.

What happened to them?

I don't know.  I lost them in my bedroom. Sniff....

Can you go find them?

No, my legs are broken

Oh my, I'm sorry.  Hopefully you'll get better soon and then you can find them.  Do you want to try looking for them again?

No

Why not?

Because God said no"

Caleb picked the chore of unloading the
dishwasher and he loves it!
She was really worried about them.  We'll have to clean her room today to see if we can find them.  I'd hate it if my arm fell off and I couldn't use it.  Would be really tough cleaning since I need every available body part to keep up after these kids.  No matter how many years I've kept on them about putting their stuff away and cleaning, they still manage to have stuff follow them wherever they go.  Little stinkers.  My mother-in-love called and said she would like to come over this summer and help me declutter and organize.  I screamed in the phone I was so excited!  On this last trip, while staying in a hotel, I kept it spotless EASILY.  You know why?  Because it was simple.  As soon as I walked in I hung my clothes up, lined up my shoes, folded my shorts and pants, put stuff in drawers.  Was easy.  When I was single my apartment was spotless BECAUSE it was simple.  Put me with 6 kids and a husband and it can easily overwhelm me.  Not that a perfect house is something I should care about, but I'd like to not break both my toes and my elbow on things that are left out.  AND I'd rather swim in a pool any day than swim through stuff left out on the floor.

Shocking Truth about Geico's Gecko

We found this lizard in a backyard and put him on Ivy's couch from her doll house. I figured I'd give a story with it. You can call me the Lizard Whisperer.

Geico Gecko in therapy
"Doctor, it all started when Geico hired me to be their spokesperson.  At first it sounded good.  After all, I came here to the big city to find food for my family back home.  Geico treated me good, even made me a bed in the boss' office.  I'm having these nightmares ever since the incident.  One night the janitor was making his rounds. (shudder) I guess he was never informed of me being hired on.  He took off his big, humongous shoe and raised it to squish me.  I tried to escape but was frozen in fear.  He missed me but got my tail.  In horror I looked back and saw my tail detached from my body.  I played dead, even when I was thrown in the trash.  Since then my tail has grown back (thank goodness) but now I have these nightmares.  A big shoe always over me... ready to squish me.  I wake up cradling my tail every time.  I love my work, the money is good, my family back home writes me.  I don't know.  I just feel like sometimes I'm living a lie.  I haven't climbed a tree in years.  I'm popular and the ladies love me.  I just feel empty inside.  Can you help me?

Kids Say the Funniest Things

Kids say really, really funny stuff and even stuff that hurts our feelings unintentionally.

"Mom, my farts hurt..... but I still have the joy of the Lord!" -Ivy (Posted HERE on Heard on the Playground's website.)

"Dad, I love you even though you are fluffy.  Even if you get fluffier later I will still love you." -Ivy

Remember this?
Boys are pretty obvious when they want to get into something. Not girls. When it gets too quiet in their room it always sends alarm bells in my head. So I thought I'd see how "sweetly" they were playing. Ivy knew she was caught so she started crying. We were laughing so hard that baby Ashley joined in.
Those are the times that it's just better to laugh rather than cry.  I knew I had a huge mess to clean up later and a bath to give late at night.  I was exhausted and just wanted to go to sleep.  After I walked in on the girls, at first I was shocked when I saw the Nesquik powder everywhere but then Charles and I just broke down laughing.  We laughed and laughed.  It was so funny.  It was a pain cleaning up but oh well.  Stuff happens.  Or "Girls happen".

If you guys have something funny then please submit it to Heard on the Playground we can all enjoy it!  I love reading stuff kids say because you just can't make up good stuff like that.  Tee hee....

33 Ridiculous Toys of All Time

I found this list of The 33 Ridiculous Toys of All Time but the one I wanted to point out is the Barbie.  I know Barbies are so cute and fashionable.  You can put shoes on (that the kids will lose anyway) and comb their hair (before it becomes ratted).  You can even change their outfits!  Or..... not.  Heck, it seems they like to play nudist colony more often than not.

"Does Barbie represent bad gender role modeling?  I don't know, but I do know this: that girl likes to get naked.  No sooner than minutes after your daughter receives the gift of Barbie does this amoral little doll have her clothes off.  And it is in the sinful state of nature that Barbie will stay, most likely writhing in a pile of similarly clothing-shy Barbies.  It's not the 70's anymore, Barbie.  Get some undies." -

I have to agree that it's kind of annoying that they'd make these completely naked under their clothes.  Especially since I have sons around.  They are just way to close to making these like an (surgery enhanced) adult.  I get leery of them coming out of my girls' room because I don't like my boys to see them.  What is so hard about designing some permanent underwear and undershirt for them?  That way when my girl sneaks one into church and lifts it over her head, we don't have a naked Barbie being waved in the air.

Other weird toys are:

Heyyyy, at least we wouldn't have to pick up the poop after it.  No loud barking.  This is as simple as pets get, guys.

For those of you who travel all the time and miss going through the airport lines and can't wait get back. No need to wait!  Enjoy it with your family at home.  Might as well train our kids now.

Actually, I could imagine getting this for my kids to have ONLY for waiting in quiet bank lines or sitting in a hushed waiting room somewhere.  A place where people are too uncomfortable to talk to each other.  It'd be the only entertaining thing to watch but annoying to hear over and over since it's made out of wood.

I have a bone to pick with the Pogo Stick.  I could never master it.  It was a major disappointment in my life.  I think at the most I could bounce 4 times. The kids who could do 50 must've been on steroids.

Sanity Held Hostage

Who would DO SUCH A THING?

My daughter and I have been really sick the last couple of days and on antibiotics.  After visiting the Urgent Care I went to my friend's house to relax.  I was happy just to lay on her floor to try and feel better while my younger three enjoy running about and playing with their friends.  Regrettably I had to leave no matter how bad I felt so I could be home when my kids arrive from school.  Just as I'm pulling up the school bus arrives.  I opened the door to my own "Home Sweet Home".  Within 5 minutes I get an anonymous call to check my facebook.  See picture below with message attached.

"I am holding this binki hostage. The owner must clean my house from top to bottom or it curtains for the binki!"

This "friend" of mine, which I will not reveal (don't click on link), has held my (very loud) son's binky hostage.  Thankfully, she can't spell so that tells me I may be able to outsmart her.

Funny Comment!

I was visiting Katherine's blog site, and when I went to leave her a comment, I found this funny comment from Sherri, another fellow blogger. This is funny and so true, check it out:

"I'm so with you on the groceries. Pardon the long comment, but here it goes."

After planning meals, checking the pantry for what we need, driving to the store, etc. Then we have to do the following:
1) Take items off shelf
2) Put items in cart
3) Take items out of cart
4) Put items on conveyor belt
for ringing up
5) Put items back in cart
6) Wheel cart out to car
7) Take items out of cart
8) Put items in car
9) Drive home
10) Take items out of car
11) Carry items in house
12) Take items out of bags
13) Put items away

"Anyone still amazed that we hate this chore?"
